Keys to the series

If these teams were boxers, they’d be heavyweights. New York led the AL with 245 home runs, scoring 48.4% of its runs via the long ball, and Baltimore ranked second with 214 homers, scoring 47.3% of its runs via the long ball. If the bullpens decide the series, the Orioles would have the edge. Baltimore, behind closer Jim Johnson (major league-leading 51 saves) and right-handers Pedro Strop (2.44 ERA) and Darren O’Day (2.28 ERA), went 74-0 in games they led after seven innings, 29-9 in one-run games and have won 16 straight extra-inning games. Yankees closer Rafael Soriano, who converted 42 of 46 save opportunities, filled in admirably for the injured Mariano Rivera, but there will be extra pressure on him to replace the greatest postseason reliever in baseball history. The Orioles won’t be intimidated by Yankee Stadium; they won all three of their series in New York this season.

The pick: Orioles in five.
