UCLA’s Jerry Johnson ready to jump back into the lineup

UCLA receiver Jerry Johnson appears ready to rejoin the Bruins offense. Sore ribs prevented him from playing against Utah and limited him to one series against California.

“He will helps us,” Mora said. “We use a lot of guys. It’s not uncommon to have 11 different guys catching the ball. We need to do that and I don’t think we did that last week.”

UCLA had six receivers catching passes against Utah. The Bruins used three first-year freshmen at receiver -- Kenneth Walker, Jordan Payton and Devin Fuller. Johnson, a fifth-year senior, will add a little more experience to that group.

“He gives us a little bit more of a vertical threat, so we can stretch the field,” Mora said. “We need explosive plays. The offense is capable of it. The last couple weeks isn’t where we want to be.”

Johnson has 15 receptions for 155 yards and one touchdown this season.

“I would like to see him do some good things down the stretch,” Mora said. “I think he has the ability to play at the next level. I think he needs to show it to some people.”
