Angels will mess with Texas often in 2013

The Angels will get their fill of Texas next season. The team’s 2013 schedule was officially released on Wednesday, and there are no trips combining the Rangers and new American League West member Houston.

So, the Angels will make six different stops in Texas to play the Rangers and Astros.

As was reported last week, the Angels will open the season on April 1 at Cincinnati, their three-game interleague series against the Reds followed by three games at Texas. The home opener is April 9 against Oakland.

There are no trips that would be considered extreme in terms of travel, but there are peculiar three-city trips, in late August (Seattle-Tampa Bay-Milwaukee), and mid-September (Toronto-Houston-Oakland). There is an off day between Seattle and Tampa Bay on Aug. 26.

The Angels will play 19 games (76 total) against AL West opponents Texas, Houston, Seattle and Oakland, 66 games against AL East and Central clubs and 20 interleague games, including only four against the Dodgers, at Los Angeles May 27-28 and in Anaheim on May 29-30.

In addition to games at Cincinnati and Dodger Stadium, the Angels will travel for interleague series against the Chicago Cubs (July 9-10) and Milwaukee (Aug. 30-Sept. 1). They will host interleague series against the Cubs (June 4-5), Pittsburgh (June 21-23) and St. Louis (July 2-4).

Of the team’s 27 games in September, 20, including the final 16, will be against AL West teams. The Angels will close the season with a four-game series at Texas.
