U.S. women’s gymnastics team shows support for Anaheim Ducks

Thanks to the NHL’s second lockout in seven years, it looks as if the next few months will be pretty tough on hockey fans. Luckily, the “Fierce Five” have come to the rescue.

It turns out that the U.S. women’s gold-medal winning gymnastics team are big fans of the Anaheim Ducks, which makes sense since two of its members -- McKayla Maroney and Kyla Ross -- hail from Orange County.

The five gold medalist donned the Ducks jerseys after making a stop at Honda Center on Sunday as part of the post-Olympics gymnastics tour.

Maroney, who had surgery to repair a fractured left tibia she suffered at a recent tour stop in Ontario, did not perform in the show, but the Ducks hope to invite her and Ross back for a game once the season starts (my guess is either Black Friday or New Year’s Day).

Still, as impressive as the “Fierce Five” may be, they may not be most famous quintuple in team history. (I hope Disney paid Bob Miller well.)
