Seahawks’ Richard Sherman says ‘about half’ in NFL takes Adderall

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman says “about half” the players in the NFL use the banned prescription drug Adderall. That’s a lot of players.

But Sherman isn’t all doom and gloom. The helpful second-year player has a solution to this problem -- just give in to it. If so many players are violating the rule, why bother trying to enforce it?

“About half the league takes [Adderall] and the league has to allow it,” Sherman told the Vancouver Sun on Tuesday.

So the fact that half the league takes the stimulant makes it OK? Not so sure about that. To paraphrase one of my mother’s favorite sayings during my adolescence -- if half the NFL jumped off a bridge, would you?

It should be noted that Sherman received a four-game suspension last year for violating the league’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs, reportedly for using Adderall.

But it should also be noted that Sherman successfully fought the suspension due to a mishandled sample.

Still, he says, the rule has caused him a number of headaches.

“The league made a mistake in my case. Obviously, I didn’t do anything, but you have to go through a process to prove you didn’t do anything,” Sherman said. “There are still naysayers out there who don’t believe me. But I accept it. If everybody loves you, it probably means you’re not much of a player.”
