In an attempt to win young fans, the 2014 Sochi Games will feature an expanded schedule, setting an Olympic record for the number of competitions.

The event’s organizing committee has released a schedule that features seven different sports to be contested over 17 days beginning on Feb. 7.

Eighty-five countries are expected to bring 6,000 athletes to the Russian resort city. They will compete in 98 events, about two-thirds of which will be held in the nearby mountains.

That makes Sochi significantly more expansive than the 2010 Vancouver Games and previous Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, and Salt Lake City.

Skiing and snowboarding will account for most of the new events. With the focus on youth, the program will include ski halfpipe, ski slopestyle, snowboard slopestyle and snowboard parallel slalom.

Women’s ski jumping will make its Olympic debut.

There will also be new team events in figure skating, bobsleigh and biathlon.
