Arizona 5, Dodgers 3

AT THE PLATE: Carl Crawford collected his first hits in six months, slapping two singles and driving in two runs. Crawford’s last hits had come Aug. 17, before the Boston Red Sox traded him to the Dodgers as part of a multiple-player package. Crawford singled through the left side of the infield in the third inning. His fifth-inning single to center field drove in Elian Herrera and Dee Gordon.

ON THE MOUND: With Josh Beckett pitching in a simulated game instead of making his scheduled start, mound duties fell to a collection of relievers. Josh Wall was charged with a run and four hits in two innings. Peter Moylan gave up two runs and two hits in one inning. Paco Rodriguez yielded a run and a hit in two innings. Shawn Tolleson retired the side in the sixth inning, striking out two.

EXTRA BASES: Gordon had a bunt single and scored in the fifth inning. More impressive was the walk the young shortstop drew in the third inning. Gordon has walked eight times in 38 plate appearances this spring, an average of one every 4.75 plate appearances. As a first-year major league starter last season, Gordon walked once every 16.75 plate appearances. With Hanley Ramirez expected to be the starting shortstop, Gordon is expected to be able to continue refining his game this season in triple A.

UP NEXT: vs. Oakland on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Camelback Ranch in Phoenix. On the air: none.
