Can the Clippers continue to thrive at this high-scoring pace?
“Yeah, yeah,” Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said. “It’s up-tempo, clearly. But it’s not like we’re just running. We’re running into sets. You can see the second actions [options].”
They are scoring in a variety of ways, Rivers said.
He pointed out that the Clippers are scoring on multiple options, pick-and-rolls, by moving the basketball from side to side, by setting screens to free shooters and by keeping the floor spaced.
“It’s good because you can run that slow or fast,” Rivers said. “And that’s preparation for later, because you’re not going to get all these breaks. But you can still run the same motions.”
In the long run, Rivers said he doesn’t believe the Clippers can continue to rely mostly on offense. The team will have to step it up on defense.
“But we should be able to score, I believe that every night,” Rivers said. “I think if we continue to stay in our spacing and run our continuity, we should be able to score every night. And I know our defense is going to come. You can see it in spurts.”
