Kimbrel to have knee surgery
Closer Craig Kimbrel was put on the disabled list by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday because of torn knee cartilage suffered Friday while shagging fly balls.
Kimbrel (1-3, 3.55 earned-run average, 17 saves), is expected to have surgery Monday and be sidelined three to six weeks.
Boston acquired Arizona closer Brad Ziegler for two minor leaguers early Saturday.
Ziegler is 2-3 with a 2.82 ERA and 18 saves.

New York Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard and outfielder Yoenis Cespedes won’t play for the National League in the All-Star game because of injuries.
San Diego pitcher Drew Pomeranz, and outfielders Starling Marte of Pittsburgh and Jay Bruce of Cincinnati were added to the NL team as injury replacements.
Toronto right-hander Aaron Sanchez is replacing Kimbrel on the American League team.
Pitcher Carlos Rodon was put on the DL by the Chicago White Sox because of a sprained left wrist.
