NBA: Spurs edge Magic on Kawhi Leonard’s shot

Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points and drilled a jumper from the top of the key with 0.9 on the clock to lift the visiting San Antonio Spurs to a 98-96 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night.

After a length-of-the-court pass, Orlando’s Elfrid Payton missed an open layup at the buzzer that could have tied it.

LaMarcus Aldridge had 21 points and Patty Mills added 17 points and seven assists for the Spurs, who rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit and won their fourth straight game.

Evan Fournier, whose three-pointer tied the score with 13.3 seconds left, led Orlando with 28 points. Nikola Vucevic had 20 points and 13 rebounds, Victor Oladipo scored 14 and Payton had 13 points and seven assists.

Golden State 121, at Phoenix 104: Stephen Curry nearly had a triple-double before sitting out the fourth quarter, and the Warriors (48-4) stormed into the All-Star break on an 11-game winning streak. The Suns’ Markieff Morris and Archie Goodwin scuffled on the bench.

Sacramento 114, at Philadelphia 110: DeMarcus Cousins had 28 points and 12 rebounds, and Darren Collison scored 21 of his 25 points after halftime to lead the Kings to a comeback victory.

Memphis 109, at Brooklyn 90: Mike Conley scored 20 points and Jeff Green had 12 of his 18 in the third quarter for the Grizzlies. The Nets’ Joe Johnson was scoreless, ending the NBA’s longest active streak with at least one field goal at 937 games.

Atlanta 113, at Chicago 90: Jeff Teague had 17 points and eight assists and the Hawks routed the Bulls, who have lost 13 of 18.

at Minnesota 117, Toronto 112: Rookie Karl-Anthony Towns had a career-high 35 points to go with 11 rebounds and three blocks as the Timberwolves surprised the Raptors, who have the second-best record in the East at 35-17.

at Portland 116, Houston 103: Damian Lillard had 31 points to lead six Trail Blazers in double figures.

at New Orleans 100, Utah 96: Anthony Davis capped a 19-point night with a running left-handed hook and a three-pointer in the final minute, and the Pelicans ended the Jazz’s seven-game winning streak.

Denver 103, at Detroit 92: Will Barton scored 15 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, and the Nuggets held off the depleted Pistons, who retired Chauncey Billups’ No. 1 jersey at halftime.

Charlotte 117, at Indiana 95: Kemba Walker scored 25 points as the Hornets won their third in a row and their first at Indiana since November 2008.
