Michigan’s 31-0 statement in over BYU on Saturday impressed more than a few poll voters.

For the first time since the Oct. 27, 2013 poll, the Wolverines (3-1) are back in the Associated Press Top 25, ranked No. 22.

A number of Michigan’s 2015 opponents are in the poll ahead of them: No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Michigan State, No. 10 Utah (which beat U-M 24-17 in the opener) and No. 16 Northwestern.

After getting dominated by Michigan, the Cougars dropped from No. 22 out of the poll.

U-M’s fall from the rankings in 2013 was decisive after being ranked No. 23. They dropped out after losing to the Spartans, 29-6 that season, on Nov. 2, and had not returned since. After receiving votes in the first two polls in 2014, they did not get any more after losing to Notre Dame, 31-0.

The Wolverines just missed in USA Today coaches poll, getting a season-high 84 point but just missing the rankings, as the top team receiving votes.
