Baylor offensive coordinator Kendal Briles and receivers coach Tate Wallis have been suspended for Saturday’s home game with Lamar.

The self-imposed suspension stems from “an NCAA violation related to evaluations of prospective student-athletes during the spring 2015 recruiting period,” the school said. Neither Briles the son of head coach Art Briles nor Wallis will be allowed to have any contact with the team Saturday or be at McLane Stadium.

Citing a source, Sports Illustrated reported that the NCAA talked with Dallas high school coaches this spring after reports that Briles and Wallis had contact with high school recruits at spring games and a track meet.

“We want to stay within the NCAA’s guidelines and are taking this action in accordance with the NCAA’s new penalty structure,” Art Briles said in a statement. “Kendal and Tate have cooperated fully throughout this process and we look forward to having them resume their coaching duties next week. We will continue to work closely with our compliance staff to ensure that future violations are avoided.”

Baylor is currently pursuing an outside investigation of its handling of the sexual assault investigation of former Baylor football player Sam Ukwuachu, a Boise State transfer. The football program and the university have each criticism for their handling of the situation. Ukwuachu was sentenced to six months in jail and 10 years probation after being convicted of felony sexual assault.
