WNBA standouts Brittney Griner and Glory Johnson have announced they are engaged to be married.

Griner proposed to Johnson on Thursday and posted a photo via Instagram on Friday showing her on one knee presenting a ring to Johnson.

Griner, a star player for the Phoenix Mercury, wrote on the post: “Last Night was a Night to Remember I became the happiest person on this earth! (almost pass out but when that one word came out I came back to life) Me and my baby @missvol25 are in it for Life!”

Johnson, who plays for the Tulsa Shock, later posted a photo on her Instagram account showing Griner lying down with a ring resting on her shoulder.

Griner and Johnson haven’t said publicly when or where they plan to get married. Arizona and Oklahoma have gay marriage bans that are being contested in court. Oklahoma’s ban has been appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court after an appeals court ruled in July it was unconstitutional.

The 6-foot-8 Griner announced she was gay in April 2013, shortly after finishing a stellar career at Baylor. At the time of her announcement, Griner told Sports Illustrated that going public with her sexuality was something she had to do.

“It really wasn’t too difficult,” she said. “I wouldn’t say I was hiding or anything like that. I’ve always been open about who I am and my sexuality. So, it wasn’t hard at all. If I can show that I’m out and I’m fine and everything’s OK, then hopefully the younger generation will definitely feel the same way.”

Griner is averaging 15.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game for the Mercury, which has an WNBA-best 27-5 record.

Johnson, in her third season with the Shock following a collegiate career at Tennessee, is averaging 15 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
