Jay Mohr pokes fun at NASCAR’s Danica Patrick and she’s not amused

Danica Patrick struggled through her rookie season in NASCAR’s elite Sprint Cup Series this year with an average finish of 26th.

And when comedian Jay Mohr indirectly noted that fact with a joke at NASCAR’s annual awards banquet in Las Vegas, Patrick was not amused.

As Mohr delivered his jokes from the stage, he looked at Patrick and her boyfriend, fellow Cup driver Ricky Stenhouse Jr., seated in front of him Friday and said:

“Danica, I hope you’re not too uncomfortable tonight. I know you’re not used to being this close to the front.”

The camera focused on Patrick and Stenhouse for their reactions, and they clearly weren’t pleased. Stenhouse just glared. There was an audible gasp from those in the room.

Mohr tried to recover by noting “it’s a comedy show.”

Later, while accepting a fan award on the program, Patrick took a swipe at Mohr, saying: “I have amazing fans, I’m so fortunate, and I think it’s pretty safe to say Jay Mohr is not one of them.”

That prompted Mohr to make one more effort to de-ice the chill, saying “I could not be more of a Danica Patrick fan.”
