Baseball: Chatsworth-ECR game is canceled
Because of air quality concerns, Friday’s West Valley League baseball title decider between El Camino Real and host Chatsworth has been canceled.
The Los Angeles Unified School District has canceled all outdoor sporting events for Friday after a warning from the South Coast Air Quality Management District, according to athletics spokesman Dave Siedelman.
The only game that will be played is a 6:30 p.m. baseball game between Granada Hills and host Birmingham. The two schools are charter schools and don’t have to follow LAUSD guidelines.
The City Section is scheduled put together its baseball brackets on Saturday. The canceled ECR-Chatsworth game will have a major impact on the pairings. The two teams finished tied for first place, but with ECR owning a win over Chatsworth, it is expected to be the No. 1 seed from the West Valley League and the No. 1 seed in Division I.
Also canceled was the West Valley League track and field finals. They have been rescheduled for Monday at Birmingham.
