A man died after a struggle with Long Beach police officers Saturday morning, but few details of the incident were immediately available, a police spokesperson said.

Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Marlene Arrona said that police were called to a single-family home in the 3200 block of Ladoga Avenue about 10:40 a.m. in response to complaints that the man was under the influence of narcotics, acting violently and destroying the home.

Police detained him, and “a use of force occurred,” she said. The man became unresponsive and was taken to a local hospital but could not be revived, she said. She did not specify the kind of force but said he was not shot.

Arrona said the coroner’s office will determine the cause of death.
