A young adult male died Thursday evening after falling from a cliff at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, authorities said.
Shortly after 8 p.m., the man fell from the cliff in the 800 block of West Paseo Del Mar and the group of people he was with immediately contacted 911, said Erik Scott, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire department deployed a boat and a helicopter in an attempt to rescue the man, whose body was pulled from heavy surf by four rescue divers, Scott said.
Paramedics tried to resuscitate the man after hoisting him into the boat, but he was pronounced dead, Scott said.
Officials did not release the name or age of the man pending notification of his family.
