A 33-year-old woman was killed and three children were slightly injured Saturday when their sport utility vehicle overturned after a three-car collision on the Century Freeway in Paramount, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. in eastbound lanes and tied up traffic for hours.

Though the cause of the accident was still under investigation late Saturday, a Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman said the SUV was the last vehicle to be struck. The collision killed a female passenger in the SUV and left three children with cuts and bruises, Capt. Michael Brown said.

The driver of the SUV and two other children in the vehicle were not injured. They were taken for observation to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where the others were also transported, Brown said.
