Randy Foye settling in as a starting guard

His role has changed, putting more of a spotlight on Randy Foye because of who he has replaced in the starting lineup.

Foye had been a reserve guard for the Clippers, but now he’s a starter because Chauncey Billups is out for the rest of the season because of a torn left Achilles’ tendon.

Foye started his third straight game Saturday night against the Charlotte Bobcats. He scored 12 points on five-for-seven shooting, making two of four three-point shots.

“My main thing is team success,” Foye said. “That’s how I’ve always been. Every since I was younger, I’d pull back from my game to help others become successful.”

Foye said his approach to the game will not change just because he is starting.

“I think our main thing here is we understand that Blake [Griffin] and CP [Chris Paul] drive the ship. Everyone else falls in line and we’ve got to play our role. And my role is to knock down shots and if Blake and CP can’t make plays, I make plays. But I also bring intensity on the defensive end.”

Surgery for Billups

Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro said Billups will have surgery Wednesday in Colorado to repair his Achilles’ tendon. Del Negro said Billups will do his rehabilitation in Los Angeles.

Billups was injured in the fourth quarter of the Clippers’ overtime win over the Orlando Magic on Monday. Since then, his teammates have kept his No. 1 jersey hanging in his locker stall — in Cleveland, Philadelphia and, Saturday, in Charlotte.

Bledsoe gets to play

Eric Bledsoe had hoped to play before the Clippers finished the six-game trip that concludes Monday night in Dallas.

He got his opportunity Saturday night against the Charlotte Bobcats. The second-year point guard played almost 12 minutes, accumulating more fouls (five) than points (two) or assists (two).

“He fouled a lot and he was a little bit tentative,” Del Negro said. “But he was just trying to feel the game out a little bit. He’s still a very young player.”

Bledsoe has been limited to two games this season because of his right knee, on which he had off-season surgery to repair torn cartilage.

“It’s going to be a process for him,” Del Negro said. “He’s been out for a while.”

Mo Williams arrived about an hour before game time after attending his grandfather’s funeral in a town about an hour from Jackson, Miss.

Williams’ grandfather, Isiah Claiborne Williams, died of cancer earlier in the week. Mo Williams played Friday night at Philadelphia, flew to Mississippi on Saturday morning and flew to Charlotte in the afternoon.

“It was enlightening,” said Williams, who scored nine points on four-for-10 shooting against the Bobcats. “It wasn’t so emotional. It was an uplifting sermon.”
