Clippers’ Eric Bledsoe is off to a fast start

When Eric Bledsoe was told that he has scored more points in his first 13 games this season than he did in the 40 regular-season games in which he played in 2011-12, the 6-foot-1 guard responded sheepishly.

“I didn’t know that,” he said.

Bledsoe scored 133 points in the first 13 games. He scored 132 points last season.

“I’m in attack mode,” Bledsoe said. “I think I’m the ‘X’ factor on this team. People don’t really look for me to do much, so I just come in and I bring the energy.”

Lamar Odom is still struggling

Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro was asked, what is it going to take to get Lamar Odom to be the player people saw when he played for the Lakers and was selected the NBA’s sixth man of the year in 2010-11?

“That’s a good question,” Del Negro said.

Del Negro said Odom was not at a shootaround Monday morning because of illness. But Odom played against the New Orleans Hornets on Monday night.

Del Negro said the idea is to keep Odom “engaged.”

Odom is averaging only 1.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists through 13 games.

“In the big picture, I feel he’s going to be a valuable asset for us moving forward,” Del Negro said. “But he knows he needs to play better and I have confidence that he will.”

Odom sat out the last two weeks of training camp because of a bone bruise in his left knee.

Del Negro said Odom has been losing weight and still has to lose more.

“I’m going to stay with him because I feel like in the long run he’s going to give us a different look that we’re going to need at a certain time during the season,” Del Negro said.

No timetable for Chauncey Billups

Del Negro repeated that there isn’t a timetable for Chauncey Billups to return from left Achilles’ tendon surgery.

Del Negro said that Billups will practice Tuesday, but that only the 6-3 guard can determine when he will play.

“Even when he comes back, whenever that is, we’ll manage his minutes and see how he feels,” Del Negro said. “But Chauncey knows his body better than anybody.”
