The victory earned Houston first place in Group B. It will play Pachuca of Mexico in the other SuperLiga semifinal on Aug. 14 in Houston. That pits the defending champions of Major League Soccer and the Mexican league. Pachuca finished second behind the Galaxy in Group A.

Morelia of Mexico had a chance to win Group B, but the Monarcos were defeated, 3-2, by Club America on Wednesday night in front of 10,623 at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill., and failed to reach the semifinals.

Club America built a 2-0 lead on goals by Juan Mosqueda and Salvador Cabanas, but Gonzalo Choy and Luis Landin scored six minutes apart in the second half to tie it up before Federico Insua scored the winner for Club America in the 85th minute.

The inaugural edition of the SuperLiga tournament offers $2.5 million in prize money, with the winner of the Aug. 29 final, at a site to be determined, receiving $1 million.
