Donald Sterling’s son-in-law blasts comments attributed to Sterling

Eric Miller, the Clippers’ director of basketball operations and son-in-law of Clippers owner Donald Sterling, on Monday called recorded comments about blacks attributed to Sterling “deplorable and disgusting.”

Miller, distancing himself from the audio attributed to Sterling, confirmed to The Times that quotes reported earlier on the website TMZ were his.

“I find the statements and representations made by the Clippers’ team owner to be deplorable and disgusting,” Miller told TMZ on Monday. “There is no room in sports or society in general for racism.”

A voice purported to be Sterling’s is heard on an audio recording released by TMZ on Friday night. The person on the recording is heard telling a female friend that he was upset she posted a picture on Instagram of herself next to Lakers legend and Hall of Fame player Magic Johnson.

Sterling’s comments have been a distraction for the Clippers in the middle of a first-round playoff series against the Golden State Warriors.

Game 5 is Tuesday night at Staples Center. The best-of-seven series is tied, 2-2.

“I pledge my full support for the wonderful players, coaches and staff members of the Clippers organization,” Miller told TMZ. “I have complete faith that Commissioner [Adam] Silver will deal with this matter swiftly and severely.”

Silver is scheduled to reveal results of the NBA’s investigation into the recorded comments when he conducts a news conference Tuesday, scheduled for 11 a.m. PDT.

Miller is in his second season with the Clippers.

“If these comments should happen to cost me my employment with the team, it is but a small price to pay to speak out against ignorance and racism,” Miller said.
