Clippers, Neil Olshey agree in principle to new contract
Neil Olshey, the Clippers’ vice president of basketball operations who put together one of the most successful teams in the franchise’s history, reached an agreement in principle to stay with the Clippers, the team said Friday.
No financial details were made available.
Olshey had flown to London recently to interview with Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen for their vacant general manager position, his second interview with that team in two years.
Olshey had been working without a contract with the Clippers since last August.
During the 66-game, lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, Olshey acquired Chris Paul, Chauncey Billups, Caron Butler, Reggie Evans, Nick Young and Kenyon Martin and resigned center DeAndre Jordan.
The Clippers posted a 40-26 record in the regular season, the highest winning percentage (60.6%) in franchise history.
The Clippers then reached the second round of the playoffs for just the second time during the 31 years Donald Sterling has owned the team.
Clippers Coach Vinny Del Negro had his contract for next season exercised by the team on Tuesday.
Olshey just completed his second season in his role as the general manager, and his ninth overall with the Clippers.
