Kings win the Stanley Cup with a 6-1 victory in Game 6

The Kings have won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup championship with a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 on Monday night at Staples Center.

Captain Dustin Brown had a goal and two assists, Jeff Carter scored twice and goaltender Jonathan Quick was once again stellar.

Kings forward Jeff Carter slipped into the slot, took a pass from center Dustin Brown and whipped a wrist shot that beat Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur 1 minute 30 seconds into the second period for a 4-0 lead.

It was Carter’s second goal of the game. Brown, who would be the second American-born captain to win the Stanley Cup, has a goal and two assists.

The Devils finally got on the scoreboard with 1:13 left in the period. New Jersey winger Petr Skyora put a shot on goal, which Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick turned away, but Devils center Adam Henrique knocked in the rebound.

Brown scored again when he came from behind the net, whirled and whizzed the puck past goaltender Martin Brodeur 12:45 into the period.

Center Trevor Lewis capped the scoring spree 15 minutes into the period. Winger Dwight King bulled his way toward the net but lost the puck. Lewis was at the crease and swept it into the net.

Things went so well for the Kings that the Devils’ best chance, a shot by center Patrik Elias, hit the post.
