“Throughout the year, Times readers rely on Jonathan’s eclectic tastes and encyclopedic knowledge of local dining – from where to find the best tacos, to who has the most authentic dumplings, to which pizzeria is not-to-be-missed,” said Alice Short, The Times’ Assistant Managing Editor, Features. “The 101 brings it all together and is Jonathan Gold’s essential roadmap for understanding and appreciating our region’s vibrant food scene.”

The guide is designed for voracious readers and audacious eaters. Included is an essay on current culinary culture in L.A. and capsule reviews of each restaurant by the Pulitzer Prize-winning critic paired with ravishing images from The Times’ award-winning photographers. An interactive map and sortable lists allow 101 readers to chart their courses online, while those whose eyes are bigger than their stomachs will enjoy feasting on a new video series highlighting the diversity of cuisines and influences in the Southland.

“Food and dining is of keen interest to our readers, Southern Californians at large, and all who visit here year-round,” said Bill Yawman, Senior Director of Audience Development for The Times. “Providing exclusive online access to the 101 for Times members while making the guide available for individual purchase allows us to serve all audiences with the news they crave.”
