LA Baptist 75, La Verne Lutheran 24
La Verne Lutheran found that it was in over its head after falling to LA Baptist, 75-24.
La Verne Coach C.H. Nordhill knew before the game that the Knights had the advantage in height but said he “hoped to use our speed to defeat LA Baptist.”
In the end, the Knights proved to be not only taller, but stronger, faster, and better prepared than the Trojans. The Knights, who improved their overall record to 9-2, were led by senior forwards Dave Kaak and Mike Weaver with 16 and 10 points respectively. Weaver also had eight rebounds.
La Verne started slowly, scoring only six points in the first quarter and ground to a near halt in the second, scoring only two points. The Trojans came out stronger in the third quarter, scoring 10 points, but by then their fate was sealed.
The Trojans are 0-3 in their first Alpha League season and are 4-6 overall while LA Baptist, returning from two consecutive league championships, is 2-0.
