A 37-year-old resident of Porter Ranch shot and killed himself Thursday night when police officers came to his home to arrest him on a robbery charge, authorities said.

The man, Quentin Uman, was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head in a bedroom of his house in the 11600 block of Pala Mesa Drive.

Sheriff’s deputies and Los Angles police officers went to the home about 9 p.m. with an arrest warrant naming Uman as a suspect in a $100,000 robbery, Deputy Lynda Edmonds said. The robbery of Jansc Designer Goldsmith in Calabasas occurred Jan. 24.

Uman’s wife admitted the officers and said her husband had run to their second-floor bedroom and locked himself in after he saw them approach. Then the muffled sound of a gunshot was heard from upstairs.

A search of the house turned up jewelry taken in the robbery, Detective Charles McCrillis said.
