Junior College BASKETBALL : Brown Gets 44 in Moorpark’s Win
Moorpark College got 82 points from front-liners Kip Brown, Woody Jones and Darrin Channels in an easy 101-84 Western State Conference playoff victory over Ventura Tuesday night at Moorpark.
Brown, a 6-6 redshirt freshman transfer from Oral Roberts University, sank a school-record 19 field goals in 29 attempts en route to a 44-point night, the third-best in Raider history. He also pulled down 10 rebounds, while Jones, a 6-5 freshman from Oral Roberts, added 25 points and 10 rebounds as Moorpark improved its season mark to 19-9.
Moorpark will next play Santa Barbara (16-17), a 66-54 winner over Hancock College, in Friday’s conference semifinal at Taft College. First-place Taft (27-4) faces Oxnard (15-13), a 53-47 winner over Cuesta in the second game. The finals are scheduled for Saturday night.
