SCC Shaughnessy Playoffs to Start Tonight

Fullerton College meets Orange Coast and Cerritos plays Cypress tonight in first-round games of the South Coast Conference’s Shaughnessy playoffs at Cerritos.
The third-place Hornets (12-4 in conference and 19-11 overall) play the fourth-place Pirates (9-7, 18-12) at 6:30. The conference co-champion Falcons (13-3, 22-7), who lost to co-champion Mt. San Antonio in a one-game playoff for a seeded berth in the state playoffs Saturday, play fifth-place Cypress (8-8, 14-12) at 8:30.
Cypress upset Cerritos, 61-57, Wednesday to clinch fifth place and prevent Cerritos from winning its third straight SCC title outright and a trip to Fresno for the state playoffs that begin in two weeks.
The winners of tonight’s games will play Wednesday at Cerritos, with the winner of that game advancing to a state regional playoff Saturday. A victory in the regional playoff would secure an unseeded spot in the state playoffs.
