2 Slams Lift Canyons, 23-7
College of the Canyons scored 12 runs in the third inning on a pair of grand slams en route to a 23-7 win over Golden West College at home Tuesday.
The Cougars, 6-4, scored three in the first with the help of a two-run homer by right fielder Bill Carlson.
After Golden West, which came into the game 5-0-1 and ranked No. 4 in Southern California, scored two in the top of the third, Canyons exploded for nine hits, including grand slams by third baseman Bill Bluhm and catcher Pete Kuld.
Mark Titchner evened his record at 1-1 for Canyons, while Casey Martin took the loss.
Canyons had 21 hits, including a 4-for-5 performance with a double and five RBIs by Carlson. Left fielder Frank Halcovich was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs.
