Fire destroyed two vehicles after an early-morning crash on the Golden State Freeway in Sun Valley Wednesday, but the passengers escaped with only minor injuries.
California Highway Patrol Officer David Williams said one driver fled before emergency crews arrived at the scene of the 1:15 a.m. accident in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Williams said a Lincoln Continental ran into the back of a van, knocking both vehicles out of control.
The van went over the side of the freeway and ended up on its roof in the flood-control channel before it burst into flames, Williams said. He said the Continental crashed into the freeway’s concrete center divider and caught fire.
Williams said police are investigating the accident as a hit-and-run and are searching for the man who was driving the car.
The van’s driver and a passenger were treated for injuries at the scene, Williams said.
