Prep Baseball : Vista Defeats Sweetwater, 10-5

Frank Wyant’s two-run home run highlighted Vista’s five-run third inning and the Panthers (2-2) went on to beat Sweetwater (2-2), 10-5, in a MONY Tournament game on Wednesday at Vista High.

Wyant (1-0) also pitched 3 innings to pick up the win.

Roger Price had three of Vista’s 14 hits, with a double, triple and homer. His home run was a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Sweetwater’s Steve Contreras had two solo homers, one each in the third and sixth innings. Sweetwater’s Tony Garcia had a two-run homer in the first inning.

Hoover 8, Bonita Vista 5--The Barons hit the Cardinals with a five-run first inning but were unable to hold the lead. Hoover scored three runs in the second and third innings, and two more in the six. First baseman Eric Alvarez hit a run-scoring double in the third to break a 5-5 tie. Alvarez had three RBIs on the day. Joe Addeffo was the winner for the Cardinals (2-2).

Mar Vista 7, Monte Vista 6--The Mariners scored all of their runs in the first inning at Imperial Beach to beat the Monarchs. A two-run single by Mar Vista shortstop Victor Vagas triggered the Mariners’ rally. Winning pitcher Mendivil Manuel worked four innings in relief, striking out six. Mar Vista is 4-1.
