McKnight, DeBusk to Coach All-Stars

Share

Gary McKnight and Jerry DeBusk have been selected to coach the North and South teams, respectively, in the 20th Annual Orange County High School All-Star basketball game on June 22 at Orange Coast College.

The coaches are in the process of choosing assistant coaches and players for the game, which is limited to graduating seniors. A maximum of two players from any county high school may be chosen.

Mater Dei’s McKnight heads the North squad this season because that school has been switched to the north to give the areas more parity. Previously, Mater Dei had been designated as a south county school.

Newport Harbor’s DeBusk will lead the South squad.

The coaches for the 7th annual women’s game, held the same day, will be Carol Strassberg of Fountain Valley for the South and John Koehler of La Habra for the North.

Both games are sponsored by the Costa Mesa Kiwanis Club.

Sunny Hills’ Tim Devaney and Saddleback’s Jerry Witte were named the coaches for the Orange County North-South All-Star Football Game in Santa Ana Stadium in June.

Devaney, who coached the Lancers to the Central Conference title in 1983 and an 11-2 mark in 1984, will lead the North. Witte, who played in the game in 1965 as a lineman from Anaheim, will coach the South. Witte coached the Roadrunners to a 10-1-1 record in 1984.
