JC Baseball : Valley Rallies Late to Rout Mission, 18-0

With two out in the sixth inning at L.A. Valley College Thursday, the Monarchs were in a scoreless battle with Mission College. By the end of the eighth inning, Valley led by the eventual final score, 18-0.

What happened?

The Monarchs scored eight runs before Mission recorded the third out in the sixth, added three runs in the seventh and finished off the Free Spirits with a seven-run eighth inning.

Danny Silverman had three hits for Valley, while teammates Dave Serpa and Byron Carter each added two. Tim Riley hit a three-run home run.

Bob Hernandez (3-2) went seven complete innings for Valley to record the win. He struck out seven and allowed six hits.

Canyons 20, Antelope Valley 6

College of the Canyons scored in seven different innings en route to a lopsided win at Antelope Valley College.

Right fielder Bill Carlson drove in five runs with a home run, double and single for Canyons. Third baseman Bill Bloom added a homer (his eighth) and a triple.

Frank Halcovich (4-1) lasted 7 innings for Canyons, striking out seven and walking one.

L.A. City 11, Pierce 10

L.A. City College overcame a 10-7 deficit with four runs on six consecutive singles in the eighth inning to win at Pierce College.

Andy Westmin, Travis Sheffield, Mark Cowans, Derrek Coleman, Ramie Richards and Lester Logan singled consecutively in the decisive inning. L.A. City had 17 hits altogether.
