Community College Softball : Fullerton Wins Showdown, 3-1

Fullerton College downed Santa Ana College, 3-1, in a South Coast Conference showdown Tuesday between the state’s two top-ranked community college softball teams at Fullerton.

The Hornets’ Liz Carter went 2 for 2 and knocked in what proved to be the game-winning RBI with a bases loaded single in the third inning.

Fullerton’s Stephanie Fresquez (17-4), who struck out seven and allowed only five hits, was the winner.

Santa Ana entered the game ranked No. 1 in the state and Fullerton was No. 2. Santa Ana’s record fell to 24-2 overall, 3-2 in conference, Fullerton is 19-4, 6-0.

Fullerton meets Long Beach City College in a nonconference game today in Long Beach.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Cerritos 2, Cypress 0--Cerritos scored once in the sixth inning and once in the seventh to win at Cypress. Both teams are 1-4 in conference.
