Fullerton Defeats Long Beach State
Mike Schooler, in only his second start of the year, pitched a complete game five-hitter Friday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 2-1 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. win over Cal State Long Beach on Titan Field.
The win improved the first-place Titans’ PCAA Southern Division record to 10-5 and overall record to 22-22-1. Long Beach is 5-10 and 18-28.
Schooler (4-0), who struck out 11, allowed only an unearned run in the first inning. Don Blankenship reached base on first baseman Kevin Reimer’s error and two out later, scored on on Tim McNaughton’s single.
The Titans took the lead in the third with two runs. John Eccles doubled to lead off the inning, and two outs later, scored on Shane Turner’s double. Turner’s double marked the 27th time in 29 games he had hit safety.
John Fishel then singled in Turner with what turned out to be the winning run.
