Arreola, del Sol Set to Participate in Sundevil

SAN DIEGO — Hilltop High School’s Ellis del Sol and Grossmont’s Darcy Arreola will be two of the area’s preps to watch in the Sundevil/Coca-Cola Invitational track and field meet today at Mount Carmel High. Field events start at 12:30 p.m. and running events at 2 p.m.
Del Sol and Arreola are coming off fine performances last Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational. Del Sol, who ran a career best of 9:03.95 in the 3,200 at Arcadia will run the 1,500 today. He is the current county leader in the 880 (1:59.5), mile (4:18.87) and 3,200.
Arreola finished second in the 800 (2:14.68) and fourth in the 1,600 (4:59.29) at Arcadia. She is scheduled to run the 1,500 and 3,000 today. She is the county leader in the 800, 880 (2:15.22), 1,600, mile (5:03.05) and the 3,200 (10:39.8).
In addition to assembling the best in the county, the Sundevil Invitational will feature some of the finest athletes in the nation. Choo Choo Knighten of Locke High in Los Angeles, who equaled her own national prep record in the Michelob Invitational in February, will run the 100 (11.4), 200 (23.2) and the 400 (52.1).
Tracy Williams of Mountain View High, who beat Arreola in the 3,200 at the Pasadena Relays, will race Arreola again in the 1,500 and 3,000. And El Camino’s Darron Norris, San Diego’s defending sprint champion, will try to hold off talented fields in the 100 and 200.
