Prep HIGHLIGHTS : Duncan Is Perfect for Alemany, 12-0

Janeen Duncan pitched a five-inning perfect game as Alemany beat Immaculate Heart, 12-0, in a San Fernando League game Thursday at Immaculate Heart.

Duncan, a sophomore, struck out 10 of the 15 batters she faced while recording her second no-hitter of the year.

The game was stopped because of a league rule that a game be called if one team has a lead of more than 10 runs after five innings.

Celine Carrion led the Alemany offense with two triples and four runs batted in.

Alemany is 5-4 in league. Immaculate Heart is 0-6.

Hart 4, Burbank 0

Samantha Ford, making her first start since March 2, pitched a two-hitter and Lorie Fausett snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the fifth inning as Hart improved its Foothill League record to 5-1.

A fourth-inning single by Debbie Day and a seventh-inning single by Lesley Plank were the only hits Burbank managed against Ford, who had been on the sidelines with a wrist injury.

Monica Burke and Natalie Davidson drove in Hart’s other runs with singles.

Village Chr. 9, Marshall Fund. 0

Michelle Vail, who pitched three consecutive no-hitters last week, tossed a one-hitter for Village Christian in an Alpha League game at Marshall Fundamental.

Vail (9-0) struck out 13 and lowered her earned run average to 0.47. The only hit she surrendered was a bunt single.

Kristy Williams hit a home run for Village Christian.

Burroughs 9, Alhambra 0

Christy Alves narrowly missed pitching her fourth no-hitter as Burroughs improved its Foothill League record to 5-1 at Alhambra.

Alves (11-3) struck out five and lost her bid for the no-hitter on an infield hit in the fifth inning. It was her fourth one-hitter.

Dina Larson hit a home run and Kim Powers had three hits and four RBIs for Burroughs.

Kennedy 13, Monroe 2

Debbie Jones had two triples and two RBIs as Kennedy stayed unbeaten in four Valley 4-A League games with a win at Monroe.

Pauline Madrid pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven to earn the win.

Montclair Prep 23, Webb 8

Lauren Feltman pitched a complete game and hit a home run for Montclair Prep in an Alpha League win at home.

Shauna Whitmore also hit a home run and drove in five runs for Montclair Prep.

BASEBALL

Canoga Park 19, Taft 2

Keith Barton drove in seven runs with a pair of homers as Canoga Park won a West Valley League game at Taft.

Barton, a senior first baseman, had three hits in the game. Adam Schulhofer added a solo homer for the Hunters, who scored 10 runs in the third inning and collected 19 hits.

Jim McDonald pitched six innings and allowed just four hits for Canoga Park, now 3-5 in league. Taft fell to 2-6.

Birmingham 4, Kennedy 3

Kevin Costa led off the bottom of the seventh inning of a 3-3 tie with a game-winning home run as Birmingham won a Mid-Valley League game at home.

The homer was Costa’s first of the season and was his second RBI in the game.

Mike Maron pitched a complete game for Birmingham to earn the win.

Both Birmingham and Kennedy are 4-4 in league.

Sylmar 16, Fairfax 8

Rick Diaz and Jose Garcia hit home runs to help Sylmar remain atop the East Valley League with a win at Fairfax.

Biff McGahan pitched five innings and earned the win.

Sylmar is 10-2 in league. Fairfax is 5-6.

Oak Hill 18, Southwestern 3

Oak Hill took advantage of windy conditions and Southwestern pitchers by blasting five home runs en route to a Liberty League win at the Granada Hills Recreation Center.

John Perry hit two homers while David White, Doyle Derr and Greg Gibbons hit one each.

Bill Lockwood pitched four innings and earned the win.

Chatsworth 16, Reseda 10

Glen Stevenson, Chae-Ho Chong, Juan Hernandez and Eric Rothfield all had three hits as Chatsworth won a West Valley League game at Reseda.

Mike Ernst hit a two run homer for Chatsworth, now 7-1 and in first place in league. Reseda is 2-6 in league.

Verdugo Hills 11, Poly 8

Bill Yerby belted a home run and drove in five runs as Verdugo Hills won an East Valley League game at home.

Jack Wilinski also hit a home run for Verdugo Hills (5-6).

Tim Hunt hit a home run and a double for Poly (3-8).
