Community College Baseball : Cerritos Defeats Fullerton, 8-3

Cerritos College defeated Fullerton, 8-3, in South Coast Conference action at Fullerton Tuesday, after opening a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.

Cerritos (16-1, 28-3), the top-ranked junior college team in the state, solidified its hold on first place as left-hander John Rodriguez (6-1) pitched a complete game. He allowed seven hits, including Craig Repoz’ solo home run in the sixth for Fullerton (8-9, 22-15).

In other South Coast Conference action:

Golden West 13, Compton 5--It was another one of those days for Compton (1-16, 1-19) at Golden West. In Rustler fifth inning: Shawn Gilbert led off with a homer, Andy Mota doubled, Todd Nash tripled, Keith Kaub singled, Shane Flores walked and Scott Rath reach base on an error before the Tartars could get the side out. By then, it was 8-4. Golden West is 12-5 (21-6) in second place.

Orange Coast 8, Cypress 4--OCC’s Longo Garcia pitched six innings, allowing only three hits on his way to the win at Cypress. The Chargers (19-11, 9-8) stranded 16 men on base. OCC’s Gene Roumimper had four hits and four RBIs, including a two-run homer.

Saddleback 7, Mt. SAC 6 (10)--Steve Nichols hit a home run over the center-field wall with two out in the bottom of the 10th to earn the Gaucho victory at Saddleback. Winning pitcher Paul Prinz (3-1) entered the game in the sixth and pitched four innings. Nichols went 4 for 6 with the homer, a double, and two singles. Todd Inglehart went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Gauchos.

Santa Ana 8, Cal Poly Pomona 4--The Dons (22-11) scored four runs in the sixth inning to help clinch a nonconference victory at Santa Ana. Brent Ryhlick of the Dons went 3 for 5 and Steve Scarsone was 3 for 4.
