San Diego Prep Baseball : El Camino Turns Triple Play, Then Gets Overturned by Oceanside

El Camino High School turned in a triple play, but Oceanside rallied for a 7-6 extra-inning victory Thursday in Avocado League baseball action.

The Pirates (3-6, 3-15) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the score at 6 against the visiting Wildcats (2-7, 5-15). After Finney McCarter singled to drive in Henry Jiminez with the tying run, Oceanside had runners on first and second with none out.

The next hitter, Jason Badillo, hit a ground ball to El Camino third baseman Paul PaoPao, who stepped on third base, then threw to Mike Knudson at second base for the second out. Knudson relayed the ball to first baseman Moe Licardo to complete the triple play.

The score remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when McCarter hit a one-out, bases-loaded single to drive in Ken Combs with the winning run. McCarter finished the day with three hits and four RBIs.

In the City Eastern League:

Patrick Henry 6, Pt. Loma 1--Danny Martinez went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and Mike Romberg pitched a complete game for his fourth victory without a loss as the top-ranked Patriots (7-0, 17-1) beat the Pointers (3-4, 11-6) at Collier Jr. High. Scott Hopkins added three hits and drove in a run for Patrick Henry.

In non-league action:

Mt. Carmel 13, San Pasqual 1--The No. 7 Sundevils (7-1, 15-6) scored two runs in the second and three more in the third en route to an easy win over the No. 5 Eagles (7-1, 16-3) at San Pasqual. Maia Bradbury had three hits to lead Mt. Carmel. Dean Siskowski pitched the first five innings to record the win.
