Hoover High School’s dominance of the City Central League has ended.

The Cardinals, who had won every championship since the league was formed three years ago, will have to make room for Christian this year. The Patriots (8-1, 13-7) clinched the Central title with a 12-3 win over Saint Augustine (3-6, 4-19-1) at Christian on Friday afternoon.

A six-run fourth inning did it for the Patriots. Joel Waymire had three hits--including a two-run homer in the fourth--and had four RBIs. Center fielder Bill Donley added three hits.

Left-hander John Okken (9-3) pitched the first six innings to earn the win. Okken has seven of Christian’s eight league victories. Kevin Bell worked the final inning.
