Community College Baseball : Overrem’s 8 RBIs Spark Golden West

Steve Overrem’s eight RBIs led Golden West to a 21-14 victory over Saddleback in a South Coast Conference junior college baseball game Tuesday at Golden West.

Overrem, a sophomore first baseman, went 4 for 5 with two doubles and a third-inning, two-run home run. Overrem had only eight RBIs this season before Tuesday’s game.

Andy Mota went 4 for 6 and Keith Kaub hit his second grand slam of the season in the eighth inning to add to the Rustler 18-hit attack.

Mark Webster led Saddleback with a three-run home run in the fifth inning to cut Golden West’s lead to 14-10 at that point.

Golden West raised its record to 14-9 in conference and 23-10 overall. Saddleback fell to 8-14 and 15-10.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Orange Coast 8, Mt. SAC 4--Larry Cratsenberg went 4 for 5 with one RBI and Ron Gibbs went 2 for 3 with two RBIs to lead the Pirates to the win at Mt. SAC. Jeff Goettsch picked up the win as the Pirates raised their record to 13-10 and 18-16. Orange Coast plays host to Cerritos Thursday afternoon in its last conference game.

Cypress 12, Compton 5--The visiting Chargers erupted for 14 hits at Compton to improve their league record to 13-9 and overall mark to 23-12. Bob Goodall (7-4) shut out the Tartars over the last four innings to pick up the win. He had hitting help from Jim Patterson (2 for 2 for with two RBIs and a solo homer in the ninth), Tom Chavez (2 for 4 with two RBIs) and Bert Lizarraga (2 for 4 with two RBIs).
