Bautista Strikes Out 18 as Banning Wins, 12-0
Lisa Bautista threw a no-hitter and struck out 18 as Banning High opened the City 4-A softball playoffs with a 12-0 rout of Taft at Banning.
The Pilots’ second-round opponent will be Chatsworth, which rallied from a 6-0 early deficit for a 16-6 victory over Verdugo Hills at Verdugo. The Chancellors (8-3) scored two runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to take the lead, then piled up eight runs in the sixth to turn it into a rout.
In other 4-A games, top-seeded El Camino Real scored all its runs in the first inning in a 5-1 win over Marshall at El Camino. The undefeated Conquistadores (16-0) will play Sylmar, a 6-2 winner over Cleveland, in Round 2.
At Canoga Park, De Dow struck out 15 as Canoga Park shut out Narbonne, 7-0. The Hunters (9-2) will face North Valley League champion Kennedy (9-1). The Cougars scored five runs in the first inning and coasted to a 7-1 victory over San Pedro at Kennedy.
