Baldwin Park 4

San Dimas 5

Through four innings Saturday, shortstop Bob Rose looked more like a little leaguer than a prospective major leaguer.

Rose, a senior who is being watched by professional scouts, had three errors in four innings, one leading to a Baldwin Park run, in the Southern Section 1-A championship at Blair Field.

But it was Rose’s fifth-inning single that scored Tim Morrison and put San Dimas ahead to stay in the Saints’ 5-4 victory.

Baldwin Park had scored three runs in the fourth on a double by Randy Knorr and wild pitches by Todd Patino.

Shawn Clark got things going for San Dimas in the fifth with a bloop double to right, scoring Brian Graham, who had walked, and Tony Ash, who had singled. Tim Morrison then singled to center and advanced to second on an error by center fielder Mike Woods as Clark crossed to even the score at 3-3.

Then it was Rose, redeeming the three errors by ripping the ball into left-center. The relay throw was mishandled by Knorr, sending Rose to second and Morrison in to score. The Saints got a fifth run on a Patino single that scored Dennis Watson, who had walked.

San Dimas, the Montview league champion, finished the season at 22-5. Baldwin Park, which was a surprise finalist after finishing third in the Montview, closed at 19-11.
