Lottery Tickets Limp Into L.A.

Two trucks carrying the first 40 million lottery tickets destined for Southern California get-rich-quick hopefuls arrived at a Whittier warehouse today, but not without one of the many delays that have nagged the program.
One of the trucks broke down about a quarter of a mile from the warehouse, contributing to a 30-minute delay in the 10 a.m. delivery. “It was a broken driveline, but don’t ask me what that is,” lottery spokesman Bill Seaton said. Nine guards watched over the truck while repairs were made.
