Wife, 69, Gets Probation in Cancer Mercy-Killing

LYNCHBURG, Va. — An elderly woman who told police she killed her husband with an icepick to end his suffering from cancer was placed on two years’ probation and required to undergo psychiatric treatment.
Ruth Steppe Davis, 69, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced Thursday.
