Burns Leads Santiago Past Orange, 26-9

Behind a strong passing performance from quarterback Rick Burns, Santiago High School defeated Orange High School, 26-9, in front of 500 fans in Fred Kelly Stadium at Orange Friday night.

Burns completed 8 of 13 attempts for 121 yards and two touchdowns. The Cavaliers opened up a 7-0 first quarter lead when Burns hit running back Jim McGarrh on a 39-yard pass play with 1:49 left.

Santiago’s first of two second-quarter touchdowns came when Hao Dihn intercepted a Gabe Trejo pass and returned it six yards for the score. Three minutes later, the Cavaliers scored when Burns connected with McGarrh again, this time on a 21-yard pass play.
