Golden West Defeats OCC in Volleyball

The Golden West College women’s volleyball team rallied from a one-game deficit Friday night to defeat Orange Coast, 13-15, 15-7, 15-9, 15-7, in a South Coast Conference match at Golden West.

The win was the Rustlers’ 19th straight conference victory dating back to 1983.

Outside hitter Cece Elias led Golden West (2-0 in conference and 2-1 overall) with 15 kills and 7 blocks. Teammate Marina Van Melle had 11 kills and 4 blocks.

In other South Coast Conference action:

Rancho Santiago 3, Cypress 0--Middle blocker Lana Friedman led the host Dons with eight kills as Rancho Santiago defeated Cypress, 15-8, 15-6, 15-11.

Anne Oberschlake added seven kills for the Dons, who are 1-1 overall. Cypress is 0-2.

In nonconference action:

Biola 3, Chapman 1--The Eagles defeated the Panthers, 15-8, 6-15, 15-13, 15-12 at La Mirada. Biola was led by middle blocker Becky Miller, who had 14 kills. The Eagles are 11-3. Chapman is 10-5.
