Volleyball Roundup : Cal State Fullerton Women Lose to Pacific

The University of the Pacific women’s volleyball team, ranked third in the nation, downed Cal State Fullerton in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. match Saturday at Titan Gym, 15-10, 15-7, 15-9. The Titans, despite Wendy Knapp’s nine kills, fell to 0-3 in conference and 7-7 overall. Fullerton is at UC Santa Barbara on Friday for its next PCAA match.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Cindy Rohrig had 21 kills and five aces in two matches Saturday to lead the UC Irvine women’s volleyball team to the championship of the Sooner Invitational at Norman, Okla.

The Anteaters (4-4) defeated Northeast Louisiana, 15-9, 15-7, 15-12 in the semifinals. In the title match, UCI swept Oklahoma, 15-11, 15-5, 15-13.

Christ College of Irvine’s women’s volleyball team defeated West Coast Christian in a Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. match in Irvine Saturday, 15-6, 15-8, 15-9. Lisa McCann and Jacqueline Irons led the Lady Eagles, who play host to Pomona-Pitzer in a nonconference match Wednesday.

El Camino College downed Orange Coast College, 15-7, in the final match to win the Rancho Santiago Women’s Volleyball Tournament Saturday. OCC emerged from pool play with an 8-3 record and beat Saddleback, College of the Sequoias, and Palomar before losing to ECC in the final. San Diego Mesa beat Palomar, 15-7, for third place.
