Mira Costa Girls Defeat Santa Monica
The girls’ volleyball team from Manhattan Beach Mira Costa High School, top-ranked in the Southern Section’s 5-A Division, defeated second-ranked Santa Monica High, 15-6, 15-4, 13-15, 15-1, Thursday in a Bay League match at Santa Monica.
Mira Costa, 7-0 overall and 5-0 in league play, won the first two games handily, but then lost the third after having held a 13-10 advantage. The Mustangs, however, came back with a 6-0 run to start the fourth game, gave up one point and then finished the match with nine unanswered points.
Santa Monica, which twice beat Mira Costa last season, dropped to 5-1 and 4-1. A rematch is scheduled in November at Mira Costa.
